Dear Family and Friends,

WORD
O death, where is your sting?  Death is swallowed up in victory.” (I Cor. 15:55) “To live is Christ, to die is gain.” (Philip.1:21) “We are confident…to be absent from the body, and to be present to the Lord.” (II Cor. 5:8)
WISDOM
When a big fish swallows a small fish, the bigger fish wins, and fulfills the Law of Nature: “the survival of the fittest”. In the same way, when our perishable human body dies, it looks like we’ve lost, and that death has won. But our body carries within it a spirit that is filled with a LIFE that is greater than DEATH.  This is the Life of Christ, a gift which was given to us free of charge by God, in response to our faith that recognizes the TRUTH that Jesus, the Son of God, died for our sins, and rose again.

God is LIFE, and He has swallowed up DEATH for us by His resurrection. His life in us is the “big fish” that wins!

WIT
When something is extremely difficult or almost impossible,
Americans say, “It’s like finding a needle in a haystack.
But the Japanese say, “It’s like putting in eye drops from the second floor!”

WELLSPRING
“Enjoying Haiku Insight-Out”

Surrounded by stars,
Walking on the beach at night,
All alone with God.

A WORK of the Lord in Japan.

Words fail when trying to describe veteran teacher, speaker, and missionary, Rev. John Garlock, who was a Guest Speaker at CFN-Japan Bible School. During almost 60 years of full-time ministry (1924-2003), including his boyhood years in Ghana, where his parents were missionaries, he served on the faculties of Bible Colleges in Europe, Africa, and Asia, and also taught for 23 years at CFNI (Dallas). His book, Keys to Better Preaching, is used as a text in bible schools throughout the USA.

With balance, depth, and humor, John used teaching aids, and allowed the listeners to participate in actions (above) which clearly illustrated points in his talk (* see below). The banner behind him points to King Jesus whom John faithfully served in life, and with whom John continues to fellowship in heaven.

Standing together with you looking to the Lord,

*To illustrate the need for cooperation and coordination of people in ministry, John had 4 men come forward and try to let down a model “stretcher” evenly on 4 separate strings, just as the men of faith (Mark 2:4) let down a paralyzed man through the roof on a stretcher, to place him in front of Jesus below.

When the 4 men faced each other and cooperated (above), they could do it easily, but when they were asked to do the same thing with their backs turned, facing away from each other, and not seeing the stretcher, it was impossible for them to do it without dropping “the sick man” off the stretcher.  That was John’s point:  Cooperation and coordination of people in ministry is needed to successfully complete a job!

Let’s cooperate in prayer for CFN-Japan Bible School, and let us also know your prayer needs as well.
